HEARTS FOR HIRING
Hearts for Hiring
Jombine supports clean water initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa by donating proceeds from each hire to building wells in areas without access to clean drinking water.
There are around 2 billion people around the world without access to safely managed drinking water services. 1 in 10 people (771 million) lack ready access to clean water (water from improved sources with a roundtrip collection time of less than 30 minutes). In areas like Sub-Saharan Africa, nearly 36% of the population has limited to no access to drinking water.
Countries in this area attribute over 5% of deaths to a lack of clean water. In some countries like Chad and Central African Republic, this number is a dire 10%. Compare this to the US and Europe where the death rate is less than 0.1%
Adult women and young girls in low-income and developing countries, like Sub-Saharan Africa, spend 40+ billion hours collecting water to provide for their households. School attendance is also directly affected by how close households are to water sources and how long it takes them to collect for their families.
Clean water is not only a basic human right and need, but it is also an epidemic we can solve community by community through simple financial support.
As such, Jombine has partnered with Hearts for Water and Globeserve to support communities in Ghana and Burkina Faso. For every hire that Jombine supports, we donate proceeds of our fees to these organizations in support of wells being built to provide the clean water needed to sustainably supply an entire village.
This mission started as a humble beginning. Kathy Heseman began making stained glass hearts. For every heart she sold, 100% of the proceeds would go towards building wells. While she was never able to make it to Africa herself prior to her passing, her legacy lives on as these hearts have helped build well after well across Ghana.
Today, her daughters continue her legacy by making these hearts to support more and more wells being built each year. In honor and to continue Kathy's legacy, we send a heart to both the company and each candidate hired, in addition to a capital contribution that goes directly to building a new well in a community that will be immediately impacted by clean water.
These donations help communities realize so much more than just clean water and improved health. These wells provide hope, greater community strength, family bonds, and more time, energy, and security toward helping their village survive, grow, and thrive.
